Prevent arson attack PRINT

Each year the wilful and deliberate lighting of fires causes significant damage to people, property, flora and fauna in Western Australia.

FESA is committed to reducing the number of deliberately lit fires and works closely with other fire services, government departments, the insurance industry and Western Australian Police to detect and assist in the apprehension of arsonists.

The Bushfires Act was recently amended to clarify the definition of property regarding charges involving arson. Property now means personal or real property including crown land and includes the bush and fauna.

Reporting suspicious behaviour and firelighting
Rewards of up to $50,000 are offered for the reporting of information that leads to the identification and conviction of arsonists. The rewards are made available through the Insurance Council of Australia’s Arson Reward Scheme and are managed by Western Australian Police.

FESA promotes the Arson Reward Scheme and actively encourages people with information on suspicious persons or firelighters to report this vital information to police by ringing Police Crime Stoppers  on 1800 333 000.

Is your business at risk?
Preventing an arson attack on your business is really a matter of security. If access to your business cannot be gained, it becomes very difficult for the arsonist to be successful. Download information on how to discourage arsonists affecting your business.
