Alert Summary: The factory fire in West Perth is now contained and under control

The factory fire in West Perth is now contained and under control.

WHAT TO DO:
The fire-damaged property has an asbestos roof, and this has resulted in asbestos fragments being released into the local area up to a radius of approximately 80 metres.

 

The Department of Health (WA) and the City of Vincent's Health Services advise that the health risks associated with the release of asbestos particles from fire events is low.
  
Some residents have been evacuated and will be notified immediately after clean-up of their property has occurred and will be advised when it is safe to return home.

ROAD CLOSURES:
Carr Street in both directions between Fitzgerald Street and Charles Street remains closed.
 
INCIDENT INFORMATION:
Forty five career Fire and Rescue Service firefighters from ten stations were on the scene.
Firefighters arrived quickly and contained the fire to the building.

CAUSE:
Fire Investigation Officers will continue their investigation tomorrow.
 
At this stage the cause and damage estimate has not been determined. 

People are asked to report any suspicious behaviour to Police Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
