FESA - Fire and Emergency Services Authority of Western Australia

Helicopters and Aircraft

Throughout the bushfire season FESA operates a fleet of aircraft to boost firefighting capability.

In response to large bushfires, helitacs, Type 1 helicopters and fixed-wing water bombers are deployed to protect life and property, and assist ground crews.

Air reconnaissance aircraft are also used to detect bushfires, observe fire behaviour and to make decisions about firefighting strategy and tactics.

FESA also manages air operations of the RAC Rescue helicopter, the state’s only dedicated emergency rescue helicopter service.

RAC Rescue perform emergency rescues for a broad range of incidents, ship to shore rescues including response to Emergency Position Radio Beacons (EPIRBs) and hospital transfers for critically ill patients.
