Volunteer Fire Service

A Volunteer Fire Service (VFS) is generally established by combining the resources of a Bush Fire Service (BFS) Brigade and a Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service (VFRS) Brigade.

VFS Brigades may undertake some, or all of the activities previously performed by both the BFS Brigade and VFRS Brigade.

These roles may include:

  • Bushfire firefighting
  • Defensive structural firefighting
  • Structural fire fighting
  • Road crash rescue
  • Hazardous materials recovery
  • Community safety liaison
